Are Alabama's Republicans really Republicans? With the Alabama Legislature creating a "nonprofit technology innovation corporation" that can sign contracts with whomever they want? This sounds like something from a liberal state-owned media group or a communist regime, not the "Party of Lincoln."

Creating this will in essence create a state-owned network that will limit competition and only open the door for a monopoly of technology. Rural and unserved areas will retreat in bandwidth over time and only metro areas will succeed.

This piece of legislation is a blinder. It sounds well-intended, but interested parties in Birmingham are behind this--and that’s for profit, not connectivity.
